Mid-century modern style can be found throughout the Baxter Building, home to the Fantastic Four.

Family was the first thing that came to mind upon touring The Baxter Building, home to worldwide heroes, The Fantastic Four. By placing the kitchen, dining area, and living spaces within a single, flowing area, the architecture naturally supports interaction, fostering intimacy and routine family moments amidst their extraordinary lives.
“Forget whatever Suzie told you, the only thing that matters is the kitchen!” Ben Grimm AKA The Thing interjected at the end of our tour. And when we saw the beautifully designed kitchen, with sleek curved details and vibrant pops of orange and red, we understood exactly why he made that claim.

Galactus! One of Jack Kirby’s most incredible designs—-it was one of the biggest honors of my career to work on this character for Fantastic Four: First Steps. This is another image from the Variety article by @jazzt21 about bringing Jack Kirby’s work to life on the big screen.
Galactus in New York! So much fun to work on this character in preproduction!
Galactus concept art! We were trying to keep the big shapes as true to the Kirby design as possible, then add detail that would read close up like a starship to help push the scale. The Costumes and VFX team did such an amazing job bringing him to life! Ralph is incredible! This image is from the upcoming ‘Art of Fantastic Four: First Steps,’ available for preorder now! The Fantastic Four meet Galactus, with close ups. So many amazing people worked to bring these moments to life. I contributed a few keyframes like this to help set the stage and scale. @kasfarahani nailed the look of everything with his team, and the VFX team working with Ralph’s amazing performance in the suit that costumes created added up to something really special. The Thing, shirtless! He was a blast to work on—we really tried to get those Kirby shaped rocks that would create shadows similar to how the character was inked in those older comics. Everyone who worked on Ben did an amazing job of bringing him to life in the movie! Ebon’s performance is so heartfelt! Thank you to Matt Shakman and Kevin Feige for having me work on this guy!!
H.E.R.B.I.E.! This is the main design image for him. @adamwross did Herbie logo at the bottom of the image. So many people worked so hard to bring him to life, and everyone knocked it out of the park. Adam Ross did a wonderful job building the vis dev 3d model. Alistair Williams built the robotic on set versions, all of them amazing. The VFX teams also did an incredible job!
The Imagineering team that built him for the Disney Parks also worked some unbelievable magic—go see him in Tomorrowland at Disneyland!
Shalla-Bal!! Director Matt Shakman really wanted to focus on capturing a tarnished mirror look to her surface detail, helping to communicate how long she has served Galactus. This is an image from the Art of Fantastic Four: First Steps.
Fantastic Four tech suits! This is the main design image I did to figure out what the characters would look like as a team. Alexandra Byrne and her team did such an incredible job creating these suits, they are beautifully made and look as amazing up close as they do from a distance. Fantastic Four together! This was a keyframe I did this early in the process, trying to get a tone of the movie from setting the characters against a retro future city. I didn’t have the suit designs approved when I first did the keyframe, those were adjusted later. This is from The Art of Fantastic Four: First Steps.
Dr. Richards’ laboratory is filled with inventions of the future, alongside symbols of the past. Spotted in one corner, the suits from their previous space launch. Look closely, and you can see the effects of the cosmic rays in the tattered remains and cracked helmet of Ben’s suit as his body expanded, and the charred remnants of Johnny’s as he first burst into flames.

My fellow board artists on Fantastic Four: First Steps have started posting some of their storyboards, so I'm gonna jump on the bandwagon. This beat appears in the trailers so it's pretty safe anyway. The Thing to the rescue!!

I'm 100% sure this little frame didn't make the final cut of Fantastic Four, but that's fine. Sometimes I just have to throw a little homage into my storyboards. In this case a little nod to Marvels photographer Phil Sheldon and superstar artist @thealexrossart.
This is one of two Ross homages I snuck in. You'll have to wait for the other one though.

Early spacesuit designs for Fantastic Four: First Steps! Alexandra Byrne and her team did the final amazing designs and brought them to life. This image is from the Art of Fantastic Four: First Steps.
Early FF suit designs! This was one of the first images where we were trying to get a retro sci fi movie feel in the suits. I also tried to get some Kirby shapes into the tech in the background, directly based on page he drew where the Thing was lifting a heavy piece of tech in Reed’s lab.
