"What's so great about the Hulk and the creation of this character from publishing is he's this expression of it pure, unadulterated rage. And I say it's relatable because we've all had those moments where we just want to get angry and we hold it in. Well, Hulk gets to let it out. And because it's part of Ross's emotional journey in this film, not only was it something that was meaningful, but it's also something that then still is fun and action-driven. So you're getting two levels of it, the escapism of it, but it's still something that is emotional and character-driven and part of the theme of this film. So Red Hulk is very special in this film, and we get to lean into what's unique about him, his heat. We get to see the heat waves around him, we get to see flames. I don't want to spoil too much, but it is so, so exciting and I'm still pinching myself that I got to do this. And especially with Harrison Ford bringing Red Hulk to life. It's a real treat."
"There are early drafts of the script where Eli was in it, but we started to feel like there were too many characters to track and we want to make sure if a character is in the film, they have something to do. And so we had to make the tough decision to just explore Isaiah and to see how Isaiah being pulled into Sam's world maybe affects him."
"We also wanted Sam and Isaiah. We wanted room to build up their relationship without a third party kind of commenting on it. And so this film is very much about establishing that Isaiah has become not only a mentor to Sam, but a training partner. He is a super soldier."
"I think it allows Sam to expand on his physical skills, but that relationship might not be the best thing for Isaiah in the long run."
“She had taken a bit of a step back from acting, focusing on other things in her life, and she's such an incredible human being. But I just went and did a Zoom and had a very honest conversation with her, like I did with every other actor who was going to become involved, as to emotionally and thematically what this movie was trying to accomplish and why I thought it would be worth their time and their talents. Luckily, she responded.”
“It was right during the development process. I think I had the Zoom with her probably in early 2023 because it takes time to make a deal and prep and all that other stuff. So, it had to be well in advance so that if for some reason it wasn’t going to work out, whether scheduling or whatnot, we would have the opportunity to make another choice or decision.”
“The transformation that Ross is dealing with and the struggle that Ross is dealing with emotionally in this film is trying to move away from what he's been known as, as Thunderbolt Ross. The moment you gave him language as a Hulk, then people can talk to each other, and you're moving away from pure id to a more rational being. It was the same way Harrison felt.”
