Lady Deathstrike final costume concept for Deadpool & Wolverine. Lady Deathstrike being one of Cassandra’s henchmen made totally sense when we learnt she was coming back to the MCU. She has adamantium nails and often fought Wolverine in the past, as in X2 from the X-Men movies. Pruned by the TVA, now she’s part of Cassandra’s team in the Void.

I was asked to do a concept of juggernaut from x3 but as a woman, it didn’t end up in the movie, but ngl this could be pretty badass!!

July 14, 2023 I remember this day very well because it marked not only the halfway point on Deadpool and Wolverine, but it was also the day that a possible SAG strike was to occur….which we all know it did. So on that crazy day, we not only shot a huge sequence with Wolverine facing off against Sabertooth, but we also tested the looks of Elektra, Gambit, and Blade. All three actors who had been preparing and training to start shooting the following Monday. Needless to say, these tests went really well, with all parties extremely happy. Secrecy being the priority, the actors were tested by us at Basecamp in a tent and FaceTimed with Director @slevydirect who was busy shooting, so they could show off their looks, costumes designed by the Marvel Vis Dev Dept headed by @andyparkart Costume Designer @grey_church Makeup and Hair. Here are a couple of shots of the OG Marvel Cinematic Hero who is Mr. Wesley Snipes, back in his Blade look after 20 yrs and like the day walker he is, didn’t look a day older. Truth be told, he didn’t show up that way, this is a beautiful wig designed by @claire.pmakeupandhairdesigner built by Jess La Landé , cut and styled by Anne Carroll and a fantastic makeup and grooming by Wesley‘s personal make-up artist Cyndi Reece-Thorne. His tattoos were done with a little assist from myself CCE and Robb Crafer, not to mention his fangs, courtesy of Gary Archer @teeth_by_archer but Cyndi having done all three Blade movies with Wesley, deserves the lion share of the credit for designing the look of each Blade. Of course once shooting re-commenced 4 months later his look was tightened up and looked even better. It was Wesley’s idea for the shock of hair white on goatee and hair. I agree with @vancityreynolds that the cheers when Blade arrives on screen were epic and so well deserved.

Quill final costume concept for Deadpool & Wolverine. Cassandra’s henchmen are variant from mutants we got to see in the X-Men Universe over the years. Ryan and Shawn wanted to have female variants of some of the original mutants, and Quill was one of them. We envisioned her as some sort of cool mechanic in The Void. We suggested a new take on the quills, so we presented her with quills in her bare arms. It made sense she would use them in fighting scenarios. The makeup up team lead by the amazing makeup designer Bill Corso @bcorso did such a great job!

@barrywindsorsmith was a huge deal to me growing up, and this iconic image of Weapon X is likely my most indelible memory of Wolverine from that period. So when @andyparkart had me work on Variants for #deadpoolandwolverine, I knew I had to translate this image to live action. I loved the subtle asymmetry of the helmet and the combination of aggression and vulnerability in BWS’s composition. Hope my homage does it the faintest bit of justice.

Very excited about the upcoming Art of Deadpool and Wolverine book! I had a brief but fun stint on the project at #marvel #visdev, working for my good friend @andyparkart. My first job was to visualize an homage to the iconic DeNiro/Pacino scene from Michael Mann’s “Heat,” but with Deadpool opposite Wolvey at Kate Mantelini’s. I tried to put in as much character as I could and find a moment that would sum up their dynamic. I thought this would be *exactly* how a “stealing fries” moment would work out between them.
More from the upcoming The Art of Deadpool and Wolverine book. @andyparkart had me working on a couple of Variants, this one is my take on #ageofapocalypse #wolverine. I was trying to justify the red stripes as negative space between the belts of Wolverine’s vest rather than as a purely decorative element. As always, @thehughjackman is a pleasure to paint.

Toad final costume concept for Deadpool & Wolverine. Toad is a character we have seen in various X-Men movies, including the first ever X-Men movie back in 2000. For this version, costume designer Mayes C. Rubeo wanted to introduce a color palette inspired by the asian giant toad colours. We suggested also ideas for the skin texture mimicking a real toad skin. I just recently found out the actor playing Toad is from the Canary Island, like myself.

Blob final concept for Deadpool and Wolverine. Blob is one of the mutants who lived in the Void under the command of Cassandra Nova. In the comics, Blob is a member of the Brotherhood of Mutants who possessed elastic, blubbery skin that granted him increased durability. For this design, we wanted to add an element of cuteness into his design, that would contrast his brute force and strength. For that matter, we created the motif in his t-shirt in the style of Kawaii cute animals.

DEADPOOL AND WOLVERINE concept art/keyframe of Deadpool vs. Wolverine in the Void! During preproduction on this film I couldn’t just do one keyframe/illustration of these two fighting. Especially with my background as a comic book artist I had to do several. The challenge with these is to depict an almost stalemate scenario rather than having one clearly winning. Not as easy as it looks. But oh so fun!
This piece will also be included in the upcoming The Art of Deadpool and Wolverine.
