Framestore released a BTS breakdown for ‘SUPERMAN,’ revealing the first-ever use of 4D Gaussian Splatting in a feature film.
The technique volumetrically captured Bradley Cooper and Angela Sarafyan, creating photoreal “living photography” holograms with full post flexibility.
At Framestore, great VFX are always powered by great tech. For the first time in a feature film, we utilized 4D Gaussian Splatting on Superman to capture volumetric performances with photorealistic fidelity.
In collaboration with @InfiniteRealities, we moved beyond traditional digital doubles to create a "living photography" effect for the holographic messages from Superman's parents. This innovation allowed us to preserve genuine human emotion while providing the flexibility to re-film performances from any angle in post-production.
