You had a crazy 12 months. Just back from filming in London eh?
Yeah. We finished off 300 in Leavesden Studios in London. I basically spent a week under water - drowning.
Tell us about the movie.
It's not a prequel, nor a sequel, they are calling it a parallel film. It's basically what you are seeing that when all the Spartans went off to the Battle of Thermopylae and got betrayed, we are on the water, fighting the Persians, on ships.
Did you need the six pack cause it looks like it's a pre-requisite for being in this movie?
Yeah. We all had to get the six packs. And fortunately, I found out that through a lot of hard work and not eating much, we can all get them.
What's this about you starring opposite a former Bond girl?
That would be Eva Green. And yes, she's my arch-enemy in this film. So we have a couple of great battle scenes together.
This thing did amazing stuff for that Gererad Butler character. He's now a huge star. Are you ready for that? Are you ready to take the next step in following his footsteps?
Oh I don't know, I don't think its anything that you can really plan. So it's kinda I'll take what comes. It's quite a job, it's quite fun.
How's the whole getting your whole gear off thing happening because of Strike Back - that's the hit TV show that you are in, it's on Aussie screens right now - and it involves, you know, that. Do you have to go "That's sort of what it takes?" It's kinda part of the job now?
Yeah. I signed on to that show to play a soldier. I figured I would be killing some people, fighting terrorism around the world. I quickly found out that I am the "nude dude". And I do most of the nude work. Which is kind of funny cause I think my co-star has got a better body than me but he's, you know, married.
When are you heading back home?
I should be home for Christmas, hopefully. Hopefully. We'll see. I'm here in L.A. at the moment, following up on the film and having some meetings and stuff. But it's killing me that I am missing racing season. That hurts. But looking forward to coming home for summer.
Its' best that you are not here for racing season. There's too many carbs around here. You'd blow that six pack in two days.
(laughs) I think it's already gone.
"I had to shave, I had to work out again, I had to go back to Xerxes. It's the same character. There's little new things - a little before, a little after - but most of the movie, it's during… kind of the same time where the first movie takes place. There's a lot going on. It's hard, the green screen, it's a different way of working. It's really challenging to work that way and the character wears a lot and Xerxes is a giant. He's almost not human, which is a poetic license. It comes from a graphic novel so it's not based in real history, so that character is very very tall and his voice is like thunder and that's the description of this character. So there's a couple special FX and tricks that have to be done to accomplish that figure so I do scenes by myself. It's interesting, it's a lot of work."
You did get to play Xerxes again and we’re looking forward to seeing what 300: Rise of an Empire looks like. Is it going to look very similar to 300 or a lot different?
Yeah, Zack Snyder who directed the first one is producing this one and he wrote it too. I think the idea is to really maintain the same style and language, but it’s a different director. His name is Noam Murro and I think it will definitely have the same look but I think it’s going to be different in a way.
I wasn’t really available to do 300. It was hard to work out the dates. I think that’s going to be a great movie, and I love that team of people. 300 was my most special moment. It was my bar mitzvah
