The Suicide Squad, it just instantly started flowing. I don’t think I’ve had as much fun writing a script since maybe Dawn of the Dead. That’s what this whole movie has been like.

James Gunn is set to lend his talent to the DC Extended Universe with a new take on The Suicide Squad, though there has been some uncertainty as to whether the film is a sequel to David Ayer’s movie or if it is a reboot. When asked about this issue during an interview with ET, James Gunn would only offer a vague response and assured fans they will know when The Suicide Squad hits theaters:

“You know, these terms are all so narrow. There’s so many terms. […] It is what it is… you’ll see in two years, when it comes out.”

During an interview with Wired Taika Waititi commented on his mystery role in The Suicide Squad, but could not divulge details on the character he plays. However, Taika Waititi did discuss how his role in the James Gunn film came about:

“We’re mates and James said, ‘Come and do this thing.’ James is brilliant, and it’s just such a crazy big list of people. But I have no idea what any of them are doing.”

After praising James Gunn as “an incredible guy,” Joel Kinnaman explained that he feels like he is making his first comedy while working on The Suicide Squad:

“He’s written a fantastic script. It’s so funny… I feel like I’m shooting my first comedy. There are a lot of really funny people there. It’s like a learning experience. I’m around a lot of incredible funny people.”
