Patty Jenkins : “We actually already know the whole story to [Wonder Woman 3] and then some because there is an Amazon [spinoff] movie as well and so we already have it all mapped out. It’s just a matter of will we change our minds and when.”

“I think what we don’t want to do is do it back to back. It’s been great doing these two movies back to back, but I think it’s important to give it a little rest in between. And I like doing other things in between. And Gal has other things to do. I never want to make decisions too far in advance. We have to see if we both feel like making the movie we think we want to make when the moment comes.”

“It would not be two, I’ll tell you that much (laughs). I’m not doing that again.”

But in the recent issue of Total Film Jenkins says she’s taken a break from working on the third film because of the ongoing pandemic. The director explained that the plot of the film was inspired by the state of the world before being affected by the coronavirus. It sounds like Wonder Woman 3 will take some inspiration from the monumental effect of the virus.

“I’ve really hit the pause button. Because the truth is, where that plotline was coming from was our state of being six months ago. And so I want to make sure that I’m totally absorbing whatever the result of this pandemic is.”

Patty Jenkins also told the publication that she’s not sure whether she’ll do the Amazon movie or Wonder Woman 3, noting the unpredictability of the world. The director mentioned that the plot of the film will stay familiar to previous plans, but it’ll definitely be impacted by the pandemic. We’ll likely learn more about the plans for Diana after Wonder Woman 1984 during DC’s virtual convention in August.

“We’re not starting to work on that movie right away. I’m hoping to do this Amazon movie before we do the third Wonder Woman. And I may not do either of them. You never know what will happen in this world, you know? But yes, I think the plotline will stay very similar, probably. But I want to make sure it’s influenced by all of this.”

"The next one [Wonder Woman 3] is probably my last Wonder Woman movie," Jenkins told in regards to her future with the franchise, "so I have to put everything I want to show there. We have to think carefully."

"I think the present is the right thing. I wouldn't go to like to the 60s or to the 40s with Wonder Woman. I feel like the past has been handled well and now it's time to move on."
