It’s alive! Your first look at Guillermo del Toro's ‘Frankenstein’—and Jacob Elordi as the titular scientist’s monster—is here.
“Everybody said no,” del Toro says, of his passion project. The Oscar-winning director fought for years to make his operatic spin on Mary Shelley’s 1818 novel—then finally, @netflix said yes.
Starring Oscar Issac as Dr. Viktor Frankenstein, del Toro's take is steeped in faith, fear, and fatherhood. “It’s the idea of a person going from a baby to a human being in a short span of time and being exposed to everything,” the filmmaker tells VF's Anthony @breznican. “And then going to his creator to say, ‘Why? Why did you put me here?’”
For Elordi, following in the shadow of Boris Karloff's take on the iconic monster was quite the challenge: “The biggest thing was just immersing myself in the world of these creatures.”
